Aus verschiedenen Gr\u00fcnden ist das Projekt gescheitert. Die Versuchsanlage wurde von 1980 bis 1987 in zwei Bauabschnitten gebaut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die Teststrecke der Versuchsanlage besteht aus einem eingleisigen geraden Streckenabschnitt auf einer haupts\u00e4chlich aufgest\u00e4nderten Trasse, der dank zweier Endschleifen (Nord- und S\u00fcdschleife) im Ringverkehr befahren werden kann. Dabei befinden sich am Ende der Geraden zwei Weichen, eine weitere dient der Zufahrt zum Versuchszentrum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mit dem Auslaufen des im Jahr 2005 in Auftrag gegebenen Weiterentwicklungsprogramms (WEP) stand im Raume, dass die Strecke Ende Juni 2009 ihre Funktion verliere. Es liege dann damit ein anwendungsreifes System vor, das international vermarktet werden k\u00f6nne und den technologischen Vorsprung Deutschlands verdeutliche. F\u00fcr dar\u00fcberhinausgehende Weiterentwicklungen w\u00fcrden sie die Testanlage nicht mehr ben\u00f6tigen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Urspr\u00fcnglich sollte die Teststrecke im Jahre 2012 zur\u00fcckgebaut werden; die Kosten von circa 40 Millionen Euro sollte dabei der Bund tragen.
